Iced Tea Ideas
I'm not much of a soft-drink person. My beverages of choice are coffee, water, mixed drinks and iced tea. My "all day" beverage is iced tea. I love the abundance of the different herbal and flavored varieties.
Best of all, iced tea is quick and easy to fix. Brew it up, let it steep, add ice and enjoy. It's a wonderful thirst quencher and in it's un-sweetened state is calorie free. What could be better?
In Oregon, where I live, we're fortunate to have Stash Teas headquartered here. They're celebrating their 25th year in business, for which I say, "Congratulations!".
Here are a couple of iced tea ideas you might want to try:
COLADA COOLER
1-1/2 cups boiling water
6 Orange Herbal Tea Bags Bags
2 cups (1 pt.) vanilla ice cream
1 can (8 oz.) crushed pineapple in natural juice, undrained
2 Tbsp. flaked coconut
2 Tbsp. honey
1 cup ice cubes (about 6 to 8)
In teapot, pour boiling water over tea bags; cover and brew 5 minutes. Remove Tea Bags and cool. In blender, combine tea, ice cream, pineapple, coconut and honey. Process at high speed until blended. Add ice cubes, one at a time; process until ice is blended.
Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 10 Minute(s)
Chill Time: 15 Minute(s)
SPICED ICED TEA
4 cups water
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp. whole cloves
4 Peycoe tea bags
1 cup chilled pineapple juice
1 cup chilled orange juice
3 Tbsp. honey
In medium saucepan, bring water, cinnamon and cloves to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add tea bags; cover and brew 5 minutes. Remove Tea Bags and spices. In pitcher, combine tea with remaining ingredients; serve over ice.
Makes: 5 (8-oz.) servings
Preparation Time: 15 Minute(s)
The "trick" in making great iced tea is in the length of the steeping process. Most "experts" agree that 15 minutes is the appropriate length of time to allow the tea bags to steep in HOT water. Some iced tea aficiandos believe that if you make the brew more concentrated, it won't get as watered down down when you add ice to it and the ice melts. I've tried this--and it works quite well.
